Why Should I Recycle? Author: Jen Green Illustrator: Mike Gordon
This book will not only answer all your children’s questions about recycling to save our planet but will also inspire them to live sustainably.
The story begins with a family that never recycles- throwing everything into the garbage can after using once. One day, they passed by their school teacher Mr Jones’ house and saw him putting a box of cans, bottles, and paper by his front door. The children were so puzzled, not understanding why their school teacher seemed to be collecting junk. That was until Mr Jones brought them to the local recycling plant and taught them that our garbage is not all junk. Cans can be melted to make bikes; glass can be reused to make new bottles; paper can be melted into new sheets; clothes could be broken into cloth and sewed again. In fact, Mr Jones told them that many of the objects in their house, in their schools came from recycled materials!
But still, why we should cycle, the children wondered. Mr Jones introduced them to the idea of landfills, of garbage polluting our environments and of doing our little part in ensuring that we produce the least rubbish we can. Inspired by this sudden revelation, the children and their family change their living habits to a more sustainable one: recycling, reusing, and, even, going to purchase recycled products!
This humorously informative picture book with captivating images is the perfect way to introduce the idea of environmental protection to your kids of age 3-5. Perhaps even for adults, we need the reminder to save our planet. After all, the resources we have today are limited and it is our responsibility to ensure that future generations will have the same luxuries of lifestyle.
